Shakil Ahmed (Bogra) Correspondent: Four college students went missing while taking selfies on their mobile phones while diving into the Jamuna River in Dhunat Upazila of Bogra. Of these, 3 friends were rescued by locals, but 1 is missing.
The incident took place at 4 pm on Friday (February 24) in the Baniajan Spur (dam) area of the Jamuna River in Bhandarbari Union of the upazila. They were taking selfies in the Jamuna River to meet their girlfriend on Valentine's Day.
The student who went missing in the Jamuna is named Junayed Rahman (18). He is the son of Jahidul Islam of Tine Colony in Sherpur town of Bogra. In addition, the students rescued from the Jamuna River are Mafiz Iqbal (18), son of Abul Kalam, from Sherpur Town Colony area, Shoaib Ahmed (18), son of Golam Sarwar, and Aofi Hasan (18), son of Solaiman Ali. The rescued are healthy.
According to the fire service and local sources, the Baniajan Spa area of the Jamuna River is known as Mini Cox's Bazar to the locals. During the holidays, travel enthusiasts come here with their loved ones. In continuation of this, the 4 friends came to meet their girlfriends in the Baniajan Spa area on Friday afternoon.
Then they went down to the Jamuna River and started competing to take selfies on their mobile phones. At one point, the 4 friends inadvertently fell into the Jamuna River and drowned. At that time, other travelers there, with the help of locals, rescued 3 friends with the help of a boat. They could not rescue the other person.
Hamidul Haque, team leader of Dhunat Fire Service, confirmed this information and said that there is a strong current in the Jamuna River. Due to this, the missing Junaid Rahman may be swept away downstream. Members of the Rajshahi diving team have been informed about the matter to rescue him. The diving team has already left for the spot from Rajshahi.
