Renowned actor Prabir Mitra has passed away


Renowned actor Prabir Mitra has passed away. He breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital on Sunday (January 5). The actor was undergoing treatment in the ICU for several problems, including lung complications.

Earlier, his son Mithun Mitra had said that the actor's condition was critical. He said that his father was admitted to the hospital on December 22 due to some complications related to old age. After tests, he was diagnosed with lung problems. He was later taken to the ICU.

The veteran actor was born on August 18, 1943, in Chandina, Comilla. His full name is Prabir Kumar Mitra. Prabir Mitra, who grew up in Old Dhaka, got involved in drama since his school days. He acted in Rabindranath Tagore's play 'Dakghar' during his school days.

Prabir Mitra entered the silver screen by acting in the movie 'Jolchhobi' in 1969. The movie was released in 1971. Although he worked as a hero in a few films at the beginning of his career, he later gained popularity as a character actor. He has acted in four hundred films in a career spanning five decades.

He received the National Film Award for his performance in the film 'Bada Bhalo Lok Chil' in 1982. The actor was also awarded the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' of the National Film Award in 2018. However, he did not receive the Ekushey Padak or the Swadhinata Padak. The actor was last seen in a film called 'Briddhashram', which was released in 2023.
