A man named Darbesh Ali (52) was killed in a clash between two groups over the occupation of a char in Ulipur, Kurigram

The incident took place on Sunday (January 5) afternoon in the Karpur char of Daldaliya Union of the upazila.
The deceased Darbesh Ali is the son of Sipar Akander of Thetrai Union.
Ulipur Police Station OC Zillur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Police and local sources have learned that Sabur Mia, a former member of Ward No. 5 of Chhawla Union of Pirgachha Upazila of neighboring Rangpur, and Ismail Hossain, a member of Ward No. 3 of the same union, had been in a dispute for a long time over about 200 acres of char in Karpura of Daldaliya Union of Ulipur Upazila. A few days ago, there was a clash between two groups. Due to this, a clash broke out between the two groups this afternoon when they tried to encroach on the char. In this, Darvesh Ali of Sabur's group died on the spot.

It is learnt that at least 10 people from both sides were injured in the incident.

Nuruzzaman Mia, a member of Ward No. 3 of Daldaliya Union, said that the char is about 200 acres in size. It is basically Khas (government) land. Every year, clashes occur between the two groups around the char.

Today (Sunday) too, a person named Darvesh Ali died in a clash centered on the char encroachment. He is Sabur's cousin.

Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zillur Rahman said, "The body will be recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Preparations for a case are underway in this regard."
