2 BGB raided Cox's Bazar Teknaf and arrested two people with 10.5 kg gold ornaments, gold bars, Bangladeshi cash 4,78,240 taka, Myanmar currency 2,29,500 kyat and 10 mobile phones.
On September 16 Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) on a tip-off, smugglers hid a large consignment of gold and narcotics in a house in Aliabad area of Teknaf Municipality to be smuggled from Myanmar to Bangladesh.
Based on the information, the patrol quickly surrounded a suspect's house and conducted a search operation while staying in Aliabad area. But after realizing the presence of BGB, the two suspects staying at the house tried to run away with two bags of gold, but the BGB patrol managed to arrest them.
10.5 kg of various gold ornaments, gold bars, Bangladeshi cash 4,78,240 taka, Myanmar currency 2,29,500 kyat and 10 mobile phones were recovered from the seized bag.
The arrested are the son of the deceased Yunus of Sodapara area of Myanmar. Hafizur Rahman (28) Police Station- Mongdu, District-Mongdu, Myanmar. Myanmar Son of late Sultan of Sodapara area Anwar (30) Thana- Maungdu, District- Maungdu, Myanmar.
Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) Commander Lt. Colonel Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed said, recovered gold ornaments and gold bars, Bangladeshi cash and Myanmar currency have been deposited in Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner's Office (Treasury Branch). The arrested 2 accused have to be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station through a regular case on charges of illegal gold smuggling by evading government taxes/duties along with mobile phones.
