Coordinator Sarjis Alam announced that he will stand all night in front of the Raju sculpture in Dhaka University to protest the attack by Ansar members.


Sarjis Alam, one of the co-ordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, said that he would stand overnight in front of the Raju sculpture in Dhaka University to protest the attack by Ansar members on students.

He announced this while speaking to the students at the secretariat on Sunday (August 25) around 11:30 pm.


At that time, the advisers and officials who were blocked in the secretariat asked the students to return to the Doyle square in an orderly manner. From there they will go to Raju Bhaskar.

Sarzis said, we have to protect the people's coup that we have made. We will go back to the campus as the advisors and officers leave the secretariat. I will go to Raju Bhaskar together with the brothers staying at Doyal Chattar.

He further said, 'We will not go back until action is taken against those who shed the blood of our brothers. We will stay overnight in front of the Raju sculpture. We will return when we feel our campus and roads are safe.

After investigation, it is known that thousands of Ansar members started protesting in front of the secretariat since morning. At one stage they blocked the secretariat from 12 noon. All the gates are closed. Although the office closed at 5 pm, the officers and employees could not leave before 10:30 pm.

In the afternoon, Home Affairs Adviser Lt. General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured to accept all demands of Ansar. Besides, he also announced the cancellation of the 'rest system' of the members of the force. At that time the movement coordinator of Ansar Nasir suspended the program.

But a group of agitators surrounded the secretariat and blocked the advisers and officials demanding to announce the nationalization of their jobs by today (Sunday). At night, many officials and employees can be seen leaving the secretariat by climbing the walls.
 Before 9 pm, Hasnat, the coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement on Facebook Live called the students to come to the secretariat. Later, around 9 pm, students from different halls of Dhaka University (DU) gathered in front of the Raju sculpture and headed towards the secretariat. Later, when the students reached in front of the secretariat around 9:30 pm, the clash started between the two sides.

There was a back and forth chase in the secretariat area for about half an hour. At this time several rounds of gunshots were heard.

Along with the students, the general public also came down with sticks. Ansar members left the secretariat area after being chased by the students. Students beat Ansar members with sticks while fleeing. Later, the atmosphere calmed down when the army took position in the secretariat area. After about 10 and a half hours, the advisers and workers trapped in the secretariat were freed.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp Incharge (Inspector) Md. Bachchu Mia told the media that as many as 30 students and Ansar came to the hospital with injuries. Most of them suffered head injuries. They are undergoing treatment in the emergency department.
