A report by the famous magazine Forbes mentioned Durov as a billionaire. It is said that he owns 15.5 billion dollars. In 2014, the Russian government forced the opposition to block communications from the social media platform Vkontakte, created by Pavel Durov. But he did not agree. However, he later sold the social media platform Vkontaki and left Russia.

According to Russian and French media reports, Pavel Durov took French citizenship in 2021. Although he has been operating his Telegram messaging app from Dubai since 2017.

Durov said in an interview given to American journalist Truker Carlson last April that it is more important to work on your own than to follow someone's instructions. That is why he left Russia. The Telegram CEO also said that his company is looking for locations in Berlin, London, Singapore and San Francisco for Telegram.
