One person died due to electrocution due to electrical short circuit fire in Paschim Charauria village of Sadar Upazila of Noakhali. At that time, while trying to save the old man, his son and his son's wife and Bain were electrocuted. At the same time, 2 living houses, 1 cattle shed and 2 kitchens, 1 cow, nine sheep and cash worth 2 lakh rupees were burnt to ashes.
The deceased Md. Noor Islam (63) is the son of deceased Habib Ulya of West Char Uria village of Ward No. 4 of Noakhali Union of Upazila. He was a petty trader by profession.
The incident took place at Noor Islam's house in Paschim Char Uria village of Ward No. 4 of Noakhali Union of Upazila at around 6 am on Thursday (March 21).
The injured are the deceased's son Md. Selim (38) and his wife Maya Begum (32), Beyin Sefali Begum (50) of the deceased. Maya Begum and Sefali Begum, who were burnt, have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Senior Station Officer of Sadar Upazila Fire Service, Md. Kabir Hossain said, Nurul Islam's family members went to sleep after eating Sehri like every day. Around 6 o'clock in the morning, the house caught fire due to a short circuit in the electric meter. As soon as the fire spread to the residence, the electric wire broke and fell on the body of old Nurul Islam, who was seriously injured by electric shock. At that time, his son and son's wife and Beyin Sefali Begum were burnt to death when they tried to save him. Later, local people rescued them and took them to 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Noor Islam dead. On the other hand, Maya Begum and Sefali Begum, who suffered burns, have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Senior station officer Md. Kabir Hossain also said that the victim's family could not inform us about the fire immediately due to lack of mobile number. Local people brought the fire under control before the fire service personnel reached the spot. The amount of damage will be reported after the investigation.
