In Gaddimari Union of Hatibandhar of Lalmonirhat district, locals arrested a fraudster named Ilyas Hossain for extorting money by promising to give houses to the poor.

On Sunday (March 10) afternoon, the locals arrested the fraudster and handed him over to Gaddimari Union Parishad of Hatibandha Upazila.

Detained Elias Hossain is a resident of Sheikh Sundar village of Saniajan Union of Upazila. He introduced himself as an NGO worker named Char Jivika Unyanyan Kendra.

Locals said that Char Bika Livelihood Development Center will provide houses to the poor in Teesta Char area of ​​Gaddimari Union of Upazila. Elias Hossain collected Tk 15,000 per house from the poor people by introducing himself as an NGO worker with such a promise. In the meantime, they collected money from 10/12 people at the rate of 15 thousand taka per house. If the locals suspect the matter, they interrogate him and hand him over to the local Gaddimari Union Parishad if proven false.

Zakir Hossain, a member of Gaddimari UP, said that Elias Hossain was arrested by the locals and handed over to the Union Parishad on the charge of extorting Tk 15,000 by pretending to be an NGO worker and promising to give houses to the poor in the village. The police station has been informed that when they come, the detained person will be handed over to the police.

Gaddimari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamal said that the police station has been informed. If the police come, legal action will be taken.
