Today, March 30, is the historic 'Battle of Death' day of Walia Union of Lalpur Upazila of Natore. Just four days after the declaration of independence in 1971, hundreds of freedom-seeking people rushed to Maina village to resist the Pakistani forces on March 30. On this day, Mukti Janata, EPR and Ansar forces fought the first face-off with the Pakistani invaders in North Bengal in Maina village. In this battle, 25 regiments of the Pak invading forces were destroyed and the head of the forces Major General Aslam Hussain Khan alias Raja Khan was captured by the mob. The next day on March 31, he was shot dead at Lalpur Sreesundari Pilot High School grounds. About half a hundred resisting Bengalis were martyred and 32 people were injured in the Battle of Maina. Since then, the day has been celebrated as the historic 'Mayna War' day by various political and social organizations through various programs, but even after 54 years of independence, the Mayna War Day has not been recognized by the state. Recognizing the Maina War as the first front war in North Bengal, building a modern memorial at the place of the war has created an opportunity for the present young generation to learn about the history of this war and the families of martyrs and wounded resisters have demanded state recognition. Every year on this occasion, Milad mahfil and discussion meeting is organized in Mayan memorial premises.
