Farmer's 'suicide' by hanging rope in Mujibnagar

A farmer named Gabriel Mallick (45) committed suicide by hanging a rope in Meherpur's Mujibnagar.

Family members rescued Gabriel hanging from a mango orchard in Dholmari village of Bagwan Union of Mujibnagar Upazila around 7 pm on Tuesday. Gabriel is the son of deceased Narayan Mallick of Dholmari village.


In this regard, the wife of the deceased Gabriel said, "My husband was physically sick, seeing my husband restless in the afternoon, I and my mother-in-law asked to go to church." The body will feel good after returning from the church. Then he left home in the afternoon. He does not come home even after afternoon and evening. At one point other family members started searching and found my son Sagar Mallik hanging from the branch of the mango tree in our own mango orchard. Then we rescued him and brought him to the hospital.


The rescuers said that after being rescued and brought to the Mujibnagar Health Complex, the doctor on duty examined him and declared him dead. The doctor on duty of the health complex said that Gabriel Mallik died before he was brought to the hospital.

Mujibnagar Police Station Officer Incharge (OC) Ujjal Dutta said that a team of Mujibnagar police station visited the spot after receiving information about the incident. As there was no doubt about the fact that he had committed suicide in the preliminary investigation, a case of death was filed with the police station and the body was handed over to the family.
