Locals have blocked the train at Lalmonirhat's Aditmari station demanding that Burimari Express stop.
On the first day of the inauguration on Tuesday (March 12), they blocked the train for half an hour at Aditmari station at night and protested. Later, the blockade was lifted on the assurance of the railway authorities to collect the demands within 48 hours.
The protestors claim that the circular was issued without stopping the journey of the Burimari Express train, which was a long demand at the station, one of the 5 upazilas of the district. So that the suffering of the upazila residents will not decrease. The agitators are demanding a stop at this station for peaceful travel and transportation of agricultural products of the upazila.
Meanwhile, common people laid siege on the railway line. After the blockade lasted from 8:45 to 9:16, the blockade was lifted after the railway authorities assured to fulfill the demands within the next 48 hours.
Locals held a human chain rally yesterday. Also, Aditmari upazila residents protested by blocking the railway GM train on its way back after the inauguration in Burimari, later the blockade was lifted following the assurance of its suspension.
Engineer Jahidul Islam Zahid, who is leading the protestors, said, "We are conducting a peaceful protest. It will not be of any use to us if there is no break at this station.
Even our section will not have any tickets. There will be no opportunity to cut tickets here. So we want these opportunities. If our demands are not accepted, peaceful agitation will be done again.
