Youth shot dead in Rohingya camp

Miscreants hacked and shot dead a young man in a Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. The incident took place at Rohingya Camp No. 20 in Ukhiya around 10:30 pm on Sunday (February 11).

The deceased Asadullah (35) was a refugee from that camp. He was said to be physically challenged.

14 APBN deputy police superintendent Md. Arefin Jewel confirmed the matter and quoted the Rohingyas as saying that 10-15 miscreants entered the camp at night through the red hill. They took Asadullah from his house before anyone could understand anything. They then took him over the new bridge, hacked him and shot him in the neck and escaped. On receiving the information, APBN reported the murder to Ukhia police station. The police recovered the body and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Local UP member engineer Helal Uddin Chowdhury said that killings are going on in the Rohingya camp like bird hunting. If the operation is not carried out quickly, they will become more reckless.

Officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station. Shamim Hossain said, "Initially, it is believed that the murder happened because the information of the terrorists who attacked the deceased Asadullah was given to the opposing terrorists. An operation is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the murder.
