The day is celebrated under the leadership of a non-governmental organization called the Union for International Cancer Control. It was formerly known as the International Union Against Cancer. The organization is headquartered in Geneva and has nearly two thousand members in more than 170 countries.
The purpose of celebrating the day is to spread awareness about this deadly and deadly cancer and to encourage people to help the patients suffering from this disease.
According to a report published by the World Health Organization, 9.6 million people died of this disease in 2018. Therefore, World Cancer Day is observed across the world to address the issues related to cancer.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said, to prevent cancer, people should be widely aware. Besides, it is possible to stay healthy through regular physical examination.
World Cancer Day was started in 2000. This effort started from the stage of 'World Summit Against Cancer' in Paris, France.
The theme of this year's Cancer Day is 'Close the Care Gap'. 2022, 2023 and 2024 - World Health Organization has chosen this idea to spread cancer awareness for these three years.
