On February 5, 2024, Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said in a statement that the list of reserved 50 women's seats in the 12th National Assembly will be announced tomorrow, Tuesday (February 6).
He said that the polling schedule for 50 reserved seats for women will be announced on Tuesday. The meeting will be held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal. The Election Commission will decide the date and time of submission of nomination papers, verification, final candidates and polling.
According to the law, the election to the reserved women's seats in the National Assembly must be held within 90 days of the publication of the gazette of the results of the general election. The winners of the 12th National Parliament elections were gazetted on January 9. As such, the Election Commission (EC) has to vote for reserved women's seats in Parliament by April 7.The party will field 48 candidates in the reserved seats for women. Awami League has 223 members of parliament and two in the alliance. In all, 48 of the 50 reserved seats will be elected on the nomination of Awami League.
After the 12th National Parliament election on January 7, the EC published the newly elected candidates in the form of a gazette on January 9. Names and addresses of 298 elected representatives are published in it. Then on January 10, 298 members took oath. The result of Mymensingh-3 seat was not announced at that time as the polling of one center was postponed. Polling for the postponed center was held on January 13. On the other hand, the EC announced the new schedule for the election of Naogaon-2 seat where the polls were cancelled. Polling for that seat will be held on February 12.
