Onion market after being on the upward trend for a few days now the price has started to decrease. The price of local onion has decreased by Tk 30 per kg in Heli of Dinajpur in a span of two days due to increased supply. Two days ago it was sold at Tk 120 but now onion is selling at Tk 90 per kg.
On Wednesday (February 14), this picture was seen when I went to Hili Bazar.
Rabbi Islam, who came to buy onions in the market, said that the prices of all the daily essentials have doubled now. Meanwhile, two days ago, the price of onion suddenly increased from Tk. 25 to Tk. 30. This gets us into trouble. At present, onion is being sold at Tk 90 per kg. We are much better off if the price goes down further.
Abu Taher, an onion seller in Hili market, said that once again the supply of domestic onion in the market has started to reduce the price. Two days ago, the price of 100-105 rupees per kg of desi onion was sold wholesale. Retail 120 Tk per kg. Due to increase in supply, currently the price is reduced and the wholesale price is 85 and the retail price is 90 taka. Apart from this, Meherpur onion is being sold at the price of Tk 80 per kg in the market. This onion was sold at the price of Tk 90 per kg on Sunday. The sellers believe that the prices will come down further if imports from India start along with domestic onion supply.
Mumtaz Begum, Assistant Director of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Dinajpur, said that to control the prices of daily necessities, raids are being conducted on behalf of our organization in various haat markets of the district. Action will be taken if a complaint is made against anyone who unnecessarily increases the price of any product through artificial crisis.
