The condition of Patenga-11 Matbar Ghat of Chittagong is dilapidated and passengers are constantly crossing with grave risk.

There have been various complaints of boat passengers crossing in Ward No. 41 Patenga section and Matbar Ghat No. 11 Karnaphuli section of the city. Ashukkur, the lessee, complained that in the last 3 years, several parts of the wharf were destroyed by a freighter ship in the middle of the night, but as the broken parts have not been repaired, the passengers are in grave danger through Patenga-11 Matbar ghat, Anwara-Patia and Kornphuli. Part of the upazila has traveled regularly on city roads.

Thousands of working and professional people are maintaining communication through easy sea route. In this regard, the lessee has informed the Chittagong City Corporation (CHSIC) authority directly to the mayor several times in writing, but they have not received any remedy today.

Residents of Juldha and Shikalbaha Patia-Karnaphuli upazila, which regularly cross, said that although there are 3/6 boats at the ghat, the authorities have more than 1 due to the dilapidation of the ghat.

In this situation, thousands of residents of Anwara-Patia and Kornphuli upazilas are constantly risking their lives by crossing the Patenga-11 Matbar ghat at the risk of death.
