Former two-time mayor and former BNP leader Monirul Haque Sakku, a candidate for the post of mayor of Comilla City Corporation, said, "I think it is better not to have party symbols in the local government elections." Although I am another party, I thank the honorable Prime Minister for taking this decision. He understood late that it is better to elect local government without party symbols. A good person can come out of it. Sometimes the bad guys come to vote for party symbols.
He said these things to reporters when he was asked about this after the leaders and workers submitted nomination papers on his behalf yesterday ahead of the election. On Tuesday, on behalf of Monirul Haque Sakku, his supporters submitted nomination papers to the Returning Officer.
Monirul Haque Sakku said, I have done the last two elections without the party symbol. Once the party is doing it, I did the party symbol. I am not looking down on anyone in this election. This time someone from my party is doing the election. He did last time too. He is 17 years younger than me. I told him, I do this by-election. If you want to be mayor, do it later. We do one party, we all together, if you are in the field, we will try for you. I request him as elder brother, the rest is up to him.
