Another 1,500 Rohingyas are going to Bhasanchar in Noakhali from Ukhia Teknaf camps in Cox's Bazar. These Myanmar citizens willing to go to Bhasanchar voluntarily were taken from the camp by bus to the ground of Ukhia Degree College in Cox's Bazar around 4 pm on Tuesday (February 13). From there at night they left for Chittagong.
Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Shamsu Douza confirmed this information on Wednesday (February 14) morning.
He said that about 1500 Rohingyas are going to Bhasanchar from Ukhia-Teknaf camp in the 23rd phase. They are scheduled to leave for Bhasanchar on a navy ship on Wednesday morning. Earlier, 32 thousand went to Bhasanchar from Cox's Bazar camp in the same process.
Mohammad Rashid was waiting for the bus in front of Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf with 7 family members. He said, the number of family members is increasing. It is very difficult to live here with the family. Rohingyas in Bhasanchar (from Cox's Bazar) get more rations. So going to Bhasanchar.
He also said that Arkan's condition is getting worse. I see no way back there (Myanmar) either. There is no other way but to go to Bhasanchar.
Incidentally, more than 1.1 million Rohingyas from Rakhine State fled to Bangladesh after being forcibly displaced from Myanmar. They are living in refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhia in Cox's Bazar. The Bangladesh government started the process of relocating at least 100,000 Rohingya to Bhasanchar, an island in the Meghna estuary near Hatiya in Noakhali, two years ago to reduce the pressure on refugees.
