A 400 year old tradition is Bogra's cremated fish fair

 


Shakeel Ahmed, (Bogra District) Correspondent: The Gabtali traditional cremation fair of monks and grooms of Bogra was held on Wednesday (February 14) with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm. But according to custom, the wife fair will be held on Thursday.


It is known that thousands of people from different districts of the country came and bought and sold in the fair. Enjoyed various entertainment and games. Thousands of fish and sweets were sold in the fair. Although the price of fish is a bit high, various types of local and foreign fish including big Chital, Veus, Boal, Rui and Katla have been sold. Hindus-Muslims-men-women of different classes and professions were flocking to the traditional cremation fair. However, although Baghair fish was not found in the fair, there were numerous fishes of different species, domestic and foreign.


In the fair, veus fish is sold at Tk 1,500 to Tk 2,000 per kg, bird fish is sold at Tk 1500 to Tk 2,000 per kg, Boal fish is sold at Tk 700 to Tk 1,500 per kg, roe fish is sold at Tk 800 to Tk 1,000 per kg. Fish is sold at 800 to 900 taka per kg, black-cup at 700 to 900 taka per kg, arcata at 2200 to 2500 taka per kg, briquette at 600 to 800 taka per kg, glass-cup at 500 to 800 taka per kg. Besides, different types of fish have been sold at different prices. Traders expect to sell fish worth 1 to 2 crore rupees at the end.


The 400-year-old fair was under strict supervision of the administration on the occasion of local monk worship. Famous in the fair are big fish, all kinds of sweets, wood or steel furniture, large (Kul) and agricultural products, various furniture and food items are bought and sold like haat-bazaar.

Besides, circus, motor cycle games, boat games and swings and swings for children were also entertaining.


The director of the fair and Mahishaban UP Chairman Abdul Majeed Mondal said that the fair was completed peacefully with the overall cooperation of the administration and local residents.


In this regard, Gabtali Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nusrat Jahan Bonya said that the fair was completed in a very peaceful manner with the overall cooperation of all. Gabtali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said that like every year, the members of the law and order forces were engaged in strict security during the cremation fair. On the other hand, the wife fair will be held in Mahishaban today after the cremation fair. This 'wife fair' will be only for young women-daughters-wives. As men are not allowed to enter this fair, young housewives girls of all ages will shop according to their taste. 'Bau Mela' has been taking place since about 25 years ago.


It is to be noted that the fair has been held for one day on the private land adjacent to the Garihadah river on the occasion of the local monks' puja since about 400 years ago, adjacent to the Golabari port in Mahishaban union of Gabtali upazila. The fair license is given by the local Mahishaban Union Parishad. This time again the fair was managed and led by Abdul Majid Mandal, a member of the Mandal family and chairman of the local Mahishaban Union Parishad.Bengal The fair is celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of Magh month or the first Wednesday of Falgun month.
