The Election Commission has boycotted a total of 27 Member of Parliament (MP) candidates from voting in the upcoming 12th National Parliament election on Sunday, January 7, 2024, alleging irregularities across the country.
The polling for the much-discussed 12th National Assembly elections ended around 4 pm. Now counting of votes is going on. Earlier, polling started at 8 am.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary said that 27.15 percent of votes were cast in this parliamentary election from 8 am to 3 pm. Jahangir Alam. He gave this information to the journalists at the election commission office in Agargaon on Sunday (January 7) afternoon.
He said, so far 30 to 35 incidents of conflict have occurred. Out of these 7 polling stations were canceled. Seven people were arrested on charges of irregularities. Apart from this, two of our presiding officers died due to heart attack.
According to the EC, 25 percent of votes were cast in Dhaka, 27 percent in Chittagong, 32 percent in Khulna, 22 percent in Sylhet, 29 percent in Mymensingh, 26 percent in Rajshahi, 26 percent in Rangpur and 31 percent in Barisal.
Earlier, he had informed that 18.50 percent votes were cast in the four hours from 8 am to 12 noon across the country.
The voting for the 12th National Assembly elections ended amid the boycott of BNP and like-minded people. 28 parties participated in this election. Among them, 1 thousand 534 party candidates and 436 independent candidates.
