On December 29, 2023, at around 6:15 in the afternoon, BNP leaders and activists attacked an election campaign rally supported by Awami League boat in front of the Jhauchar raw market in Kamrangirchar of the capital. In the said incident, two people named Md Tanveer (22) and Md Shiva (30) were injured. Son of deceased Abul Hossain of Jaolahati and Shiva is son of Abdur Rob Mia of Kamrangirchar Nayagaon area.
The injured are currently undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.
Masud Hossain, the sister-in-law who brought the injured to the hospital, said that this afternoon, the election campaign procession of Awami League nominated candidate for Dhaka-2 seat, Advocate Kamrul Islam, was taken out in Jaulahati area of Kamrangirchar. Awami League activists Tanveer and Shiva were injured when BNP leaders and activists ambushed the procession with sharp weapons. The injured were rescued and brought to Dhaka Medical Center.
Dhaka Medical College hospital police camp in-charge Md. Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter quoting the doctor. He said that two workers of Awami League from Kamrangirchar were seriously injured due to stabbing and they were quickly rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical Center and treated in the emergency department. The doctor said that their condition is very serious. They are currently under observation in the emergency department. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
