Sri Lanka's cricket membership has been suspended by the International Cricket Council-ICC due to government interference

In a meeting held by the ICC on Friday, November 10, 2023, it was informed that the International Cricket Council-ICC has suspended the membership of the Sri Lankan team due to government interference in the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.

According to the rules of the international cricket governing body-ICC, the government of any country cannot interfere with the cricket board of that country. But the Sri Lankan cricket board is under severe pressure. Besides, the government formed an interim committee headed by Arjuna Ranatunga. However, a day after the incident, the court declared the government's decision illegal and ordered the reinstatement of the cricket board. This is not the first time that Sri Lanka has taken such action. Earlier, the ICC had revoked the privileges granted to the country's cricket board by the Sri Lankan government for violating the ICC rules.

In a statement held by the ICC due to such interference by the Sri Lankan government, the ICC board meeting today decided that Sri Lanka has violated important restrictions as a cricket member. In particular, cricket administration was required to be free from government interference. The ICC Board will inform the conditions of this suspension in time.
